Speaking to the Herald this week acting chief executive of Fermanagh District Council Robert Gibson exclusively revealed that proposals for a £15m indoor waterpark and a £30m legacy bridge are effectively dead in the water.

“It looks unlikely that either of those will go forward unfortunately. One of the legacies of the G8 though is better road infrastructure from a surfacing point of view and we have gained a better profile from hosting the event.”

The two projects; the first a £15 million indoor water park based across the water from the Lakeland Forum, the second, a £30 million ‘iconic’ bridge in Enniskillen to act as a bypass for the town have been shelved at least for the time being.

Fermanagh District Council had previously written to Prime Minister Cameron and the First and Deputy First Ministers appealing for funding to finance either of the projects, but according to Mr Gibson these pleas fell on deaf ears.

He added: “Those two (projects) do not appear to have garnered support within government circles,” he added.
