Ballinamallard bounce back to league action on Saturday with the visit of Glentoran.

The Ferney Park side took a heavy defeat to the slick St Patrick’s Athletic on Monday night, but will be hoping for a better result on Saturday.

It’s the side’s second last game before the Danske Premier League splits on March 29.

The side will be looking to pick up something against a side they have had little joy against in the past two seasons.

Despite Monday’s result manager Whitey Anderson was pleased with the way his boys played.

“Irrespective of the result the boys fought extremely hard against a really quality side. It was a great experience for us all.”

His side started well, but as they have learned from their two recent games, the Cliftonville one on Saturday and the first leg against St Patricks, once you give the ball away sides like this really punish you.

“You just can’t do that against top sides of this quality, but overall I can’t fault the players workrate and their ethic.”

Anderson also praised the fans who travelled to Dublin for the tie.

“They were just fantastic. It was a great occasion for the club and there were a lot of positives in the experience,” said Anderson.

“Now we must gear ourselves for the final seven games in the league split,” he stressed.

Glentoran are fighting for a top six spot, but will be smarting from their cup defeat to Glenavon on Monday night.

“This is all in our own hands. We will get together on Thursday night at training and make sure we have everything right for Saturday.

“Statistics show that we’re not on a great run, but statistics are there to be broken and it’s a great chance for us to put the record straight against Glentoran. It’s all about going out and getting a result.

“We’re not going to meet teams like St Pats and Cliftonville every week. We just won’t meet teams of that calibre in the last seven games of the season, so we would be hoping to pick up some more points to lift our position.”

Central defender and captain will miss Saturday’s game through suspension, but Craig Hill, who came in against St Patricks will partner Steve Feeney at the back for the visit of the Glens.
