Beauty blog: Spring into a brighter shade this month

WITH the winter calendar months now over, although with the recent chilly weather it certainly doesn’t feel that way, it’s time to embrace the spring colours and trends.

Even though the wintry weather might not match what’s taking over shop window displays, it’s a good idea to start introducing some light and bright colours into our wardrobe to help get us into that spring feeling.

The difficult thing I find is wearing bright colours, whether it’s for work clothes or weekend clothes, and still feel warm during the chilly days.

So what I’ve started to do is swapping staple items of clothing for a bright alternative, whether it’s exchanging my black blazer for a white, coral or red one, or wearing a a floral print top or dress with tights, or try a pastel knitted jumper or cardigan which most shops have a great selection of.

Another great and easy way to introduce spring colours is through our makeup and nail polish.

If you’re like me and love nail polish then store away the darker shades of polish – including those purples, greys and browns – in favour of pastel shades like coral, light pinks, yellow, orange and mint green.

Beauticians, chemists and stores are doing a great selection of these colours and Kate Moss is doing a gorgeous range for Rimmel with lots of different shades of pastel colours.

I recently bought the Rimmel Pro Nail Kate Moss Primrose Jack & Jill 227 shade which is a nice baby pink colour and has a gel shine finish look to it.

They all cost £4.49 each, slightly expensive for Rimmel nail polish but I love her makeup range and think it’s worth the money.

If you want an shine to your nail look then try out Rimmel superwear top coat which also help prevent the polish from chipping.

A look I’m loving at the minute is matte nail polish and Barry M has a lovely shade of Nude Vanilla and Brown Caramel.

I spoke with Richella Timoney, a beauty therapist from Advanced Beauty in Enniskillen who explained the upcoming nail trends this spring.

She said: “Gel polish is very popular with our clients. The gel nails are something we would recommend as they don’t cause as much damage to nails. They last up to two weeks and are easy to remove by soaking them.

“We would advise people who have short nails to go for extensions which last up to four weeks.

“The popular colours that we expect for spring time are the baby pinks and corals which were popular last year. At the minute our clients are going for nudes and toffee colours too.

“Some of the popular designs include light shades of tartan or checked, floral design, glitter or stripes. We use the OPI and Shellac nails brands which have a great selection of colours and designs.”
