When police arrived at the hotel room Dean Adrian Kirkpatrick, of Lettermoney Road was verbally abusive.

A 25-year-old Enniskillen man who had to be forcibly removed by five police officers following a staff Christmas party has been £450.

The prosecutor at Enniskillen Magistrates Court explained that on December 15, 2013 police received a complaint from staff at the Westville Hotel.

On arrival they were informed there had been difficulties after one of the party nights and were directed to a hotel room.

When police arrived they saw 15 to 20 people and asked them to leave. While the majority did so the defendant Dean Adrian Kirkpatrick, of Lettermoney Road laughed and was verbally abusive.

The lights were then turned off in the room and in the darkness an officer was punched. The officer then restrained the offender.

When the lights were turned on it was discovered that Kirkpatrick had thrown the punch. As he was being arrested Kirkpatrick began to struggle and punched one of the officers in the chest.

It took three officers to place cuffs on the defendant. Throughout the exchanges Kirkpatrick was verbally abusive. Police detected a strong smell of alcohol from Kirkpatrick, but noted that he was sturdy on his feet and wasn’t slurring his words.

When Kirkpatrick was being removed from the hotel he began kicking out at the bannisters, shouting at and pushing officers. Five officers were required to carry the defendant out of the building before he was placed in leg restraints.

During interview Kirkpatrick refused to give information to police and replied to all interview questions: ‘f*** off’. He also threatened officers saying; “It won’t take me long to find out who you are and where you live, I’ll sort you out.”

Defence barrister Heather Philips said this was a case where clearly too much alcohol had been consumed and was ‘absolutely out of character’.

She explained that people from the staff night had retreated to one of rooms to continue the party. She told the court Kirkpatrick deeply regretted his behaviour, had been left embarrassed and said the behaviour would not be repeated.

Deputy district judge Paul Conway said he was surprised by the way Kirkpatrick had reacted given his lack of record.
The judge told the defendant had he not pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and had a clear record he would have faced a very hefty sentence.

He left him with one final warning: “Appear again I will not be so lenient.”
