Departing Roslea manager Peter McGinnity has revealed that he and his management team stepped down in order to allow the county champions a fresh approach for the new season.
However, the former Fermanagh All-star said it was not an easy decision to make.
“After seven years of sustained efforts I just felt that myself John [Mohan] and Gerry [Lynch] felt that it just needed a change. We had felt that for some time.
“We were in our comfort zone, and the players were getting familiar with ourselves.”
McGinnity’s decision to step down was a surprising one as it seemed that Roslea were on the brink of improving on this year’s campaign when they won their third county title in four years, and also won their first Ulster Club Championship match in seven years. But he revealed that it was always the plan to go at the end of this campaign.
“Last year we needed to go but we just had a horrible year, and it was the club’s 125th anniversary year, we decided that we would go for one more year. But look, I had trouble convincing myself, and I had even more trouble convincing John Mohan.”
