A member of the portering staff at the hospital, the 36-year-old is working 7am to 7pm on Christmas Day (and St Stephen’s Day) – but he is taking it all in his stride.

“I have never worked Christmas before so this will be my first.

“I don’t have kids and a lot of my colleagues have young children so I want to help out so they can spend the day with family,” Kevin explained.

“I’ll most likely transferring patients throughout hospital if required and bringing food trolleys to wards for catering staff to give patients their meals.

“I think the mood will be very good on Christmas day because all the staff in the hospital are fantastic, warm and friendly and I’m so lucky to say I work with them. When it comes to Christmas no one wants to be in hospital, but the friendliness the staff show in the hospital will make the patients time in here a lot more easier.”

Kevin will be missing Christmas dinner with his girlfriend Laura and her family this year, but he is looking forward to put the feet up when he gets out of work.

“I’m finished at 7 so it will be home with fire on watching TV with feet up.

“Though it’ll bed early as it’s an early start the next morning.

“It can be hard for people to work around Christmas but I work with such exceptional people in the hospital and will make working Christmas day a lot more pleasant!”
