A major upgrade of St Macartin’s Cathedral Hall, Enniskillen is in the pipeline, with building control approval now being sought for the extensive project.
A major upgrading of the Cathedral Hall facilities has been planned with a project title ‘Hall Together Now’.
The hall complex is now 50 years old and is in much need of modernisation to meet present day standards.
This project aims to upgrade and extend provision of the hall facilities so as to enable further engagement with the community to take place.
The proposed works involve re-roofing part of the hall complex, using pitched roofs to replace the existing flat roofs, an extension of office, meeting room and storage facilities and improved heating and general energy efficiency through the provision of a modern heating system and upgrading of electrical appliances.
New toilet facilities and improved disability access will also be a significant improvement. Planning Permission has been obtained and Building Control approval is being sought.
The Cathedral Hall, while serving parish and diocesan purposes, is also widely used by organisations across a wide spectrum of community activity covering education, health, welfare, deprivation relief and recreation.
The hall is centrally located in Enniskillen, with its own car park, and when improved will be ideally placed to provide an even better service to the Church of Ireland parish and the wider community.
The project has been planned in such a way that if funds are not available to undertake the complete project it can be developed in stages as funds become available.
Speaking about the proposed plans Dean Kenneth Hall, of St Macartin’s Cathedral called the work a ‘major renovation’ which could make a massive difference not just for parishioners, but for the entire community.
“We have no idea how much exactly this project will cost, but probably at least half a million pounds. It is a massive project and it still has to be approved, but hope that these changes can be made to bring the hall into the 21st century.”
