A packed house at the credit union’s AGM on Monday was a celebratory occasion – and included the cutting of a cake to mark the momentous occasion.
Present on the night included Jack Gorman, a former director of the Irish League of Credit Unions, who delivered an address on the role and impact of credit unions and their importance in the community at this time.
The Kinawley and Killesher Credit Union has almost 900 members, and helps local people across a variety of purposes including: Household needs, car purchases, agriculture, business needs, education and training, and many other productive requirements.
Michael Flanagan, chairman of the credit union, praised the work of those involved in its 25 year history, and emphasised the importance of its existence in the area.
“In the bond area of Killesher and Kinawley, the credit union has become part and parcel of the community’s backbone,” he said.
“The credit union is managed by local people from the community on a voluntary basis for the benefit of the overall bond area.
“We are fortunate enough at this time to still have people in the community prepared to give their valuable time and effort to promote such an invaluable asset in these economical times.”
The credit union has an ongoing policy of encouraging new adult members and a minor youth policy, and for more information you can call into the office on Main Street, Kinawley, on Tuesdays between 10.30pm – 12.30pm, or Thursdays 6.30pm – 9pm.
