Here is the tactical take. Four boxes of where the game will be won with a big headline and a long subhead
Quigley scoring power
Roslea possess two of the best finishers in Fermanagh football in the shape of Quigley brothers, Seamus and Sean. Seamus the elder has long been regarded ass the most naturally talented forward Fermanagh has produced for a long number of years while Sean has been slowly emerging from big brothers shadow with consistent and eye catching displays for club and county.
In the semi final defeat of Ederney the brothers accounted for 1-09 out of Roslea’s 2-11 with Seamus deftly setting up the other goal for Shane Lynch. Lynch is the third member of a potent full forward line which means that 2-09 out of 2-11 came from the inside line in that semi.
It is unrealistic to think that you can curb the influence of the Quigley boys completely but if Belcoo can keep their tally down then they will have gone a long way to winning the game.
The dreaded ‘big freeze’
There are very few players on the Belcoo team who remember the last time the club were in the championship final. 1988 is a long time ago. The build up in Belcoo is sure to be reaching fever pitch this week and there has to be a worry that some of their players might freeze on the big day. Your first championship final can be a daunting prospect and while some players can come out of their shells others can be caught like a rabbit in the headlights.
Roslea on the other hand know all about championship finals and their players will treat this like any other big game they have encounter along the way and will no doubt look to start fast and put Belcoo to the sword early.
Shane pulling the strings
Central to Belcoo’s progress in this years championship has been the performances of Shane McCabe and the diminutive play maker is sure to be a player that Roslea will look to shut down. So far he has lined out at corner forward with a licence to roam and it will be interesting to see who Peter McGinnity assigns to keep tabs on McCabe.
Well capable of winning his own ball inside McCabe is at his most dangerous when floating between the full forward line and half forward line while his vision can unlock any defence. If McCabe is at his creative best then a shock could be on the cards.
Tried and tested system
Roslea have been the best team in Fermanagh over the past half decade. This is their fourth final in five years and they are going for their third championship title. Peter Lynch will drop back into defence from his half forward position and if Niall Cassidy is fit he will sweep up and look to add protection to his full back line.
A patient team Roslea will look to hold the ball until they work it to a certain area of the pitch before delivering long diagonal ball into the full forward line. many teams have tried to negate this style of play but few have been successful.
