FASHION GRADUATE, Jenna Mulligan, scooped a top prize this week at a wedding fashion show in Belfast.

A textile art, design and fashion graduate from the University of Ulster, Jenna came away with the Wedding Journal’s ‘Young Designer of the Year’ award.

“I submitted an illustration for the competition and afterwards hadn’t thought too much about it,” Jenna told the Fermanagh Herald this week.

“I had to submit an A4 illustration, mood-board type piece. You had to put your design on the board with some fabric swatches that you would use for your design.”

Jenna’s design, she described, was a fitted silhouette wedding dress. And, once the finalists were chosen, they had to make up her dress.

“I was happy with how it ended up,” she explained.

“I’d never made anything like a wedding dress before so I was very nervous. I got through it. I think it turned out quite well. Weddings are something I’d be interested in so I was determined to give it my best shot.”

The five finalists were then called on-stage at the Wedding Journal’s show in Belfast on Saturday.

“The editor announced the winner on-stage and my nerve endings were going ballistic – I couldn’t believe it.”

Currently working at the Lough Erne resort, Jenna will continue to work at her fashion.

“I’m going to keep up the fashion in the evenings and weekends. I really do enjoy. I don’t so much enjoy the making up side, I’m very much a designer.

“It would be great to have the support of someone like Victoria Beckham!”
