Fresh from being named the Best Kept Large Urban Centre in Ireland last month, Enniskillen has retained their title of Best Kept Large Town at the Northern Ireland Amenity Council Awards.
In a further boost for the county Lack has been awarded the accolade of Best Kept Small Village for 2013. The judging was undertaken by panels of judges throughout the North during the months of May to August and in the town/village category there were a number of criteria that had to be met. These included the absence of litter and flyposters and graffiti, the decorative and repair order of private and commercial buildings/premises and the absence of derelict buildings.
The awards ceremony was held yesterday at Larne Borough Council Town Hall. This is now the 10th time Enniskillen has won the large town award and they retain the title they won last year. This allowed them to enter the Irish awards this year in which they won the award of Best Kept Large Urban Centre. Winning again in the Amenity council awards allows similar entry again next year.
Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Councillor Alex Baird, who attended the awards ceremony said:
“The Council is delighted that Enniskillen and Lack have been named as the Best Kept Large Town and the Best Kept Small Village in Northern Ireland.
“This is the tenth time that Enniskillen has won the coveted title and the second time for Lack, which is a remarkable achievement.
“I would like to commend Council staff, businesses, residents and partner agencies who look after the local environment so well. It is wonderful that their hard work has been recognised.”
