FOR every child illness story that has a happy ending there is one that does not and one local former Irish International boxer is doing his utmost to ensure one little boy’s life is lived to the fullest.

Daniel Carron from Ederney is raising money for three-year-old Beau Angelides from Nottingham, who has a rare terminal condition called San Fillippo Syndrome.

This is a rare genetic disease which means he cannot stand or walk, he has no sight, he cannot eat food because he cannot swallow, and is fed through a tube into his stomach.

Although Beau is facing a terminal illness, Daniel is determined that life is made as happy as possible.

“Beau will need continuous help throughout life, he will need specialist equipment, things like car seats, wheel chairs, bathing equipment, hoists, all of which cost a small fortune, without this equipment his Dad may eventually not be able to care for him at home, explained Daniel.

He first met Beau and his dad Paul through his wife Suzanne, a doctor in the South West Acute Hospital.

The Angelides family regularly take their holidays in Ederney and Beau in particular loves the Fermanagh Lakelands.

“Beau absolutely loves water, you have never seen a child splash about like Beau, he loves Lough Erne and if the weather is good we take him for a dip in the water at Muckross, near Kesh.”

He continued: “Beau is a beautiful little boy, who despite all of this is happy and contented. He is too young to be aware of his eventual fate and despite his disability he faces his battle with courage and dignity.

“I myself am a father of two and I cannot even begin to imagine how Paul feels and what they will have to endure. Beau is an outstanding example to all of us.

“I knew that I could not just sit back and watch. I felt I had to do something. If this boy could put on such a brave fight against such a battle then I had to do all I could to try and support him.”

To that end Daniel is using his contacts in the boxing world to put together a show called ‘Boxing for Beau’ on November 23 in Mahon’s Hotel.

The event will feature professional names such as Daniel McShane from Belfast and Ben Mulligan from Enniskillen and a number of  Fermanagh GAA stars and and local Kesh soccer players.

The event may also be graced by other big names from the world of boxing including Brian Magee, Paul McCloskey and Andy Murray.

Former boxer Wayne McCullough will also be sending memorabilia.

“If our initial Irvinestown show is a success, we then plan to take a team of Irish boxers over to Beau’s hometown of Nottingham, to fight an English select on St Patrick’s Day,” explained Daniel.

This event could include appearances from premiership footballers, and International boxing legends Ricky Hatton and Carl Froch.

“Unfortunately we do not know how long Beau has, but we want him and his Dad to make some happy memories by enabling them to continue their holidays in the sanctuary that County Fermanagh is providing.”

The Irvinestown event does not yet have a sponsor and Daniel is appealing for any local or national business to come forward to sponsor a bout, a round, or donate items for auction.

Tickets are also available for what will be a great night’s entertainment for a very worthy cause. For information on how to donate visit www.beausfund.co.uk.
