THE BOG-SNORKELLING world held its breath this week – as an 18-year-old Fermanagh woman broke the world record in a bog in Wales.
And that was Fermanagh’s Dineka Maguire, who won the 28th world championships in the sport there.
The former Portora student who heads off for her first year of university in the coming weeks, took a dip in the cold bog – before beating the previous record by over a second.
“There were 130 competitors this year – and I was number 121, so was one of the last of the day,” said Dineka, “they clapped and cheered – I was absolutely exhausted, but happy at the end.”
A clear talent for the bog, Dineka swamthe 55-metre trench – twice – in 23.13 seconds.
