FIFTY years since its opening, the Corranny primary school, which closed in 2012, is holding a reunion at the end of this month.

The school was opened in 1963, situated in Aghadrumsee.

“The official opening of the new school was on December 12 1963 and after 50 years it was closed to amalgamate with Cornagague. Cornagague had their reunion last summer – and  we ourselves wanted to recall our own memories,” explained Gabrielle Maguire, part of the reunion committee, herself a former teacher in the school.

Between 500 and 600 passed through the doors of the school, and Gabrielle is hoping for a large attendance.

“It changed as the years went by. People were sad to see it closing but were also excited about the new school.  We’re lucky we got the new build when we did.  We could have lost both Corranny and Cornagague” she said.

“It was a little country school that attracted generations of children.”

“So far it’s mostly the older age group that are most excited about it; they’re looking forward to meeting with people they haven’t seen in a long time.”

All are invited to mass at 6pm in St Macartin’s Chapel, Aghadrumsee, followed by the party in the Creighton Hotel, Clones afterwards.
