Shortly after 9am police and a number of officials from the NIEA arrived at the lands and police served the landowner with the appropriate search warrants. Moments later the NIEA arrived with a large mechanical digger and began digging at a number of locations on the lands.

Inspector Roy Robinson, who led the early morning operation for the PSNI, said they were assisting the NIEA and that the intention was to search three locations on the lands they had identified.

A DOE spokesperson said: “The operation’s name is “Operation Willow”. It concerns an investigation into allegations that waste is being treated, kept or disposed of on sites in County Fermanagh. The Environmental Crime Unit and officers of the PSNI have carried out a planned search of premises in County Fermanagh. Waste has been found on the premises.

“As the investigation is at an early stage, it is not possible for us to make a further comment.”
