Going for a result

Saturday sees another big test for Ballinamallard United in their quest to gain a top six spot in the Irish Premiership.

The Ferney Park side, in their first season in the top flight, have a great chance of making the top six, but their manager Whitey Anderson feels they need to beat Glentoran on Saturday before their final game at home to Linfield.

“Every game is a big game at the moment and it’s all in our own hands now,” said Anderson.

“They don’t really come much more difficult than Glentoran and Linfield. They are the big two traditionally, but if we can win one of those two games then I’m confident we will make the top six.

“We haven’t been doing much wrong in the last five games, but we got a great lift on Saturday with the four goals and the clean sheet. It was a very steady performance.”

Anderson went on, “I really don’t care how we perform on Saturday, the important thing is the win and the points. We’ve played them twice and really should have done better. We were very unlucky not to come away with a result last time round. It was just a lapse of concentration that caught us out.”

Anderson knows his boys have trained hard recently and their football has been good.

“There is very much a desire there to do well. Their attitude has been top drawer.”
He knows there is no point in worrying about other results.

“They may have a few injuries after their Setanta Cup exploits on Monday night, but we have to look after ourselves. Just concentrate on us.”

“The boys have been biting their teeth recently. They really want to get a top six finish. Their efforts this season deserve it, but we still have to go out and do it on the pitch on Saturday.”

He knows his side has left it difficult for themselves and should have had this wrapped up a few games ago.

“The players are well capable. We’ve got a great attitude and we need to get up to the Oval and get ourselves a result. The players have no fear and they will be going for a result,’ said Anderson.
