Preview: Mallards ready to take chances

Ballinamallard United face the journey to Coleraine again on Saturday in the hope that they can repeat their performance of two weeks ago.

“It’s our second trip there in as many weeks,” said manager Whitey Anderson. “The last time we went there it was midweek, but  Saturday will be totally different.

“Coleraine will be truly up for this one after the way we beat them last time around. No doubt they will be looking to make up for that performance and we have to be ready for that as a very tough encounter,” he said.

Anderson says that his boys still have plenty to fight for after Friday night’s disappointing result against an unattractive Portadown outfit.

“We were bitterly disappointed that we didn’t get something out of that Portadown game, but it is important that we bounce back and get something from Coleraine.”

Last time out it was a good team performance which gave Ballinamallard the points.

“It was just one of those days that everything went right for us. We played very well and everything just fell into place. We got the penalty and an own goal. Everything just went right for us.”

“From one to 11 were magnificent that night and we thoroughly deserved to win. If we get as good a result again then I’ll be delighted,” said the Ballinamallard manager.

With six games left until the league splits Anderson knows that his side has to keep picking up points to stay in the mix for a top six position.

With Coleraine, Glentoran and Portadown all in the mix it is important that they get something from Saturday’s visit to the Showgrounds.

“It’s three from four fighting for the top positions and we will have to fight all the way if we are to achieve it.”

Ballinamallard though have the games played and points in the bag and with these teams playing each other sides are going to lose games.

“This is a big one for us though because if they win it puts them a point ahead of us so it is all to play for,” said Anderson.

“If we came away with the three points it would be magnificent.”

The Ballinamallard man was so disappointed that his side couldn’t come away with something in the Portadown game.

“We created plenty of opportunities in the final half hour, but the ball just wouldn’t go in. Hopefully we can create some more opportunities like that and we can take them.”
