BREAKING: Man (21) dies of car crash injuries

Luke Lynch and Ronan Melarkey who lost their lives in the crash.

THE tight-knit community of Newtownbutler is reeling tonight following the tragic death of two local footballers in a horrific car crash.
Luke Lynch, who turned 22 on August 2nd, died in the collision on the Clones Road outside Newtownbutler shortly after 8.45pm on Sunday evening. The crash happened just a mile from the Lynch family home when the blue Peugeot 206 Luke was driving rounded a bend and hit a tree.
Two other male friends, both aged in their 20s, who were passengers in the car were taken to hospital. One man who was the front seat passenger had been on life support, in a critical condition and fighting for his life. However police confirmed this evening that the 21-year-old, named locally as Ronan Melarkey, had since passed away.
The third young man was seated in the rear and tried to escape but found himself trapped. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, understood to be two broken legs.
PSNI Inspector Keir Kitt is appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw the vehicle involved travelling on the Clones Road at any time prior to the crash to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
