THE main road from Newtownbutler to Clones, is currently undergoing a major £220,000 resurfacing job.
The work began on Monday, on three sections of the road at Kilready, Legmacaffrey and Clonagun will total two kilometres of the road surface. The work is expected to be complete on February 3rd.
Local Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, has welcomed the significant investment.
“I am delighted to see this money being spent here. I would be a keen advocate of when funds are available of a resurfacing nature instead of patching. This road has had a number of accidents over the years and to see this level of funding being spent on it is very welcome.
It is a main road from Fermanagh and Monaghan and carries a heavy volume of traffic daily. This road has not had a lot of money spent on it and it is good to see the money being spent in a way which will last.”
Due to the works, motorists are advised to expect delays as the A34 carriageway will be closed to through traffic during the two week period while the work is ongoing. From 8am to 6pm from Monday, January 23rd to February 3rd, traffic diversions will be in place via the B533 Wattlebridge Road but local access will be provided where possible.
A spokesman from Transport NI explained: “TransportNI has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public however, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.”
