There’s something about birds and horses, according to Doreen Jones.

The Ballinamallard woman has been lucky enough to have two robin nests in her garden for the past few weeks.

“We don’t know what’s happened but we have two nesting robins. It must be something to do with the ponies or their tackle. They have made their homes in our little sheds out the back in among the leather headgear and the bedding for the ponies,” she explained.

“I don’t know how many chicks are in there because it’s all pretty quiet and we don’t want to disturb anything. It all looks very fragile.
“We’re keeping our distance but trying to help feed them every day. We’re giving them little crumbs of bread in a dish beside the nest and they must be eating it because the bread seems to disappear every day,” she said.

Doreen says she’s lucky she doesn’t have any cats around the house.
“It might be a bit more difficult keeping them safe if we had one, but we keep a tight eye to make sure everything is OK with them,” said Dorreen who says she’ll continue to look after them until they ‘fly the nest’
