A DERRYGONNELLY man who stole a packet of ham and a packet of crisps from Asda has been fined and ordered to pay the store £2 compensation.
Jeremy McCordick (19) from Main Street, Derrygonnelly pleaded guilty to theft at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday in relation to the incident at Asda Enniskillen on Wednesday, September 2 this year.
McCordick entered the store along with another man, took a packet of ham worth £1, and brought it into the toilet with him. When he came out a short time later the packet was empty. McCordick then took a packet of crisps, left the store without paying, and ate them outside.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said while to the causal observer the amount of goods stolen may seem small, any theft was a serious offence. He said in this case the matter was not helped by McCordick’s previous record.
Judge Broderick fined McCordick £100, ordered him to pay £2 compensation of the goods taken to Asda, and warned him if he reoffended he risked a custodial sentence.
