BARS AND pubs here will be hoping to capitalise from returning students in the coming weeks – with venues promising a busy period of events and promotions over the summer months.

While the town’s traditional Friday and Saturday nights are busy – returning students leave extra scope for generating a crowd mid-week and increasingly on Sundays. For the Bush Bar on East-Bridge Street, summer sees the return of its successful student night on Wednesdays.

“Enniskillen was always famous for their Wednesday nights, so we want to keep the tradition alive,” explained DJ Micky Quinn, resident at the Bush Bar.

“As always we will be bringing some of the best in up and coming talented DJs to Enniskillen and some old friends returning to party. Wednesday night is our student night and we also attract a big following from other people in the industry who would rarely get a weekend off. We have something for everyone and strive to give people what they want.”

He added: “It’s great for Enniskillen. I’ve promoters from all over Ireland who can’t believe we have such a strong Wednesday night culture. It also gives us another opportunity to put on bigger parties, book more guests and give people another viable option for a night out.” At Mulhern & Co’s Spirit Store on Belmore Street, which is open a month today, manager Adrian Boyle is hoping a new Open Mic night on a Wednesday will help draw a midweek crowd.

“It’s about trying to do something different. We have the lounge/acoustic bar downstairs (Uno) that’s not being utilised enough. From what the guys tell me it’s great for acoustics, so we’re trying to get it noticed for the nice bar that it is. “I just started advertising it last week. It was quiet – but we’re hoping for it to pick up. I’ve been telling all the musicians who come in here on Friday and Saturday night about it. It’ll take another few weeks for everyone to get back.”

On the opposite side of town, at the Devenish Bar and Jazzey’s are hoping to capitalise on crowds for both Wednesday and Sunday nights.

Manager John Fitzpatrick told the Fermanagh Herald: “We plan on running our nightclub ‘The Venue’ on Sunday nights in Jazzey’s and potentially Wednesdays also. Between the Devenish and Jazzey’s, there will be a huge amount of promotions on drink and live music up to seven nights a week.”

He added: “There should be a good improvement with the students back, especially during mid-week. The weekends look after themselves as its always busy, but with the promotions we run, we want to get the crowd every night we can. The weather plays a big part so like all the bars in town we’re hoping for a sunny summer.”
