For one inspirational teen her exemplary A Level results are just a further step on the road to good health.

Katy has now undergone four of 12 scheduled treatments of chemotherapy and has a 80 to 90% positive prognosis. On Thursday she received her A Level results and was delighted to achieve two As and a B securing her place for next year at university after being forced to defer her entry when diagnosed.

“I got my results online at 7am so my alarm was set for 6.55am,” explained Katy. “Surprisingly I wasn’t awake half the night with nerves, but I’d been quite nervous the day before so I had my friend over to distract each other.

“When the results popped up on my iPad I just sat and stared at them for a good minute. I was in complete shock. My friends weren’t awake yet as they wanted to find out if they’d got into uni and this wasn’t available until 8 so I ran into Judith (sister) and told her. I had a cry then because I was so overwhelmed.”

All being well Katy will study Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds from next September and is already looking ahead.

“Even though I’m getting treatment my exam results were the biggest deal to me. Everyone says they shouldn’t really matter but I worked hard for them so I just wanted to do well. Like I said before, all I wanted to do was go to university.

“Getting my place is definitely something to look forward to, I’m so excited. Obviously I wish I was going this year but I’ll get over that.”
