A GROUP of local women strutted their stuff on Sunday morning as they walked through Enniskillen in heels for A ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ fundraiser.
A unique Oscars-style fundraiser will take place on June 14 in the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan.
Seventy individuals and groups have taken on creative challenges to raise money for the Oak Healthy Living Centre’s new wellbeing hub in Lisnaskea.
Among them is Fermanagh woman Emma Weaver, who will star in a short remake of ‘Bridesmaids’ as part of the event’s entertainment.
Emma also chose a unique, personal and powerful fundraiser.
“If you know me, you’ll know I’m always in heels because it’s just who I am,” she laughed. “It also represents something deeper. You never really know what someone is going through, so always be kind.”
Emma’s choice was rooted in empathy and connection.
“Walking a mile in someone else’s shoes reminds us that everyone’s journey is different. The Oak Healthy Living Centre is about supporting people through those journeys,” she said.
Having begun her career managing mental health services in Lisnaskea, Emma feels deeply connected to the cause.
“I’ve done talks at The Oak healthy living centre before. “There’s a huge need for this new hub. It will not just help people from Lisnaskea but in surrounding areas like Newtownbutler, Roslea, and Brookeborough.”
The energy at the event was nothing short of inspiring. Emma said, “We didn’t all know each other but we came together with a shared purpose, to raise awareness and support each other. People have already asked me to make it a yearly thing.”
Emma concluded, “Our steps through Enniskillen were symbolic. They were a stride toward compassion, connection and a healthier community for all.”
