Fermanagh Féis founder Lena honoured with award

THE late Lena Corrigan, who was a founding member of Fermanagh Féis and remembered as an “epitome of authority, wisdom, and experience”, has been honoured with an award in her memory.

The Fermanagh Féis recently introduced the ‘President’s Cup in memory of Lena Corrigan’, for the most promising young singer in the Féis, with local student, Abbey Wilson, this year’s winner.

Ms Corrigan, who passed away last August, was a much-loved and hugely popular Enniskillen resident and businesswoman. She was one of the founding members of the Fermanagh Féis.

The Fermanagh Féis committee feels it’s important to honour the life of one of their founders.

“Lena was the epitome of authority, wisdom, and experience, and with that, she brought her warmth and experience of motherhood. Lena could see both sides of the Feis,” they said.

“We’re richer for knowing Lena and we’re thankful for her dedication to serving the cultural experience for all children. The Féis has been and will continue to be a ‘rite of passage’ for many.”

The hugely talented Abbey Wilson, who has been involved with some local drama performances, was selected as the inaugural winner of the award, by adjudicator, Charles Fyffe,

Following on from a hugely successful event, plans are in place for next year’s Fermanagh Féis.

“As a committee, we wanted to express our thankfulness for Lena’s life through the creation of a new cup. This reflects the encouragement that Lena had in abundance,” a spokesperson said.

“We celebrate creativity and success. We’re thankful for volunteers, like Lena, for making it happen.”
