THE ENNISKILLEN Lakelanders has renewed its appeal to the Council to put provisions in place for local swimmers once the Lakeland Forum closes later this year.
The Forum is set to undergo a multi-million pound modernisation redevelopment, and while no date has been announced for when this will begin, it is expected that the major project will get underway in the coming months and will see the facility closed for three years.
The Council has said “interim considerations” for the closure period include delivering fitness and recreation, such as gyms and fitness, at various locations in Enniskillen and throughout the county.
“Groups that currently use the Lakeland Forum will be considered in the interim provision. It is anticipated the 3G Pitch and Playpark will remain open for a period during the redevelopment. Access to the water will continue throughout the works,” the Council has stated.
However, while it has been suggested that the pool at the Share Centre in Lisnaskea could be used as an alternative while the Forum is closed, the Council has not announced any concrete plans or provisions for clubs such as Lakelanders.
Earlier this year the highly successful swimming club wrote to Fermanagh and Omagh Council expressing its concern over this lack of information on what will be put in place for its members while this work is taking place.
The club warned any closure without an alternative pool being provided would harm the prospects for local swimmers for years to come.
