ONE OF Enniskillen’s best-known businessmen, Sean Hoy has died after a short illness.
Mr Hoy passed away peacefully last Friday, August 9th in hospital in Omagh. Known for his friendly personality, long hair, and good humour, he ran an information technology business on East Bridge Street began his career as a taxi man in the town before turning his hand to computers.
Above all, though, he was best known for his work helping others in the community.
The streams of mourners making their way to Ballycassidy Funeral House over the weekend was testament to the impact the father and grandfather had on the community. Many of those who attended the wake and funeral were his friends from Ballinamallard United FC, a club which he supported in more ways than one.
Chairman of Ballinamallard Tom Elliott said his friend had been a gentleman who was loved by all who knew him.
“He a was a good friend to me, and also to the club,” said Mr Elliott. “I only got to know him in the last ten or 12 years. He was a good guy.
“He lit up every room, he had a great personality and was well liked. It’s not often you get a businessman like that, who is well liked. He was a great community man.”
Extending his sympathies to the Hoy family on behalf of the football club, Mr Elliott said Mr Hoy, who had also sponsored Ballinamallard in the past, was a whizz with computers and the former MP had availed of his services himself. He added Mr Hoy had put his skills to use in helping the club, for example he ran the Ballinamallard online lottery.
Mr Hoy, who was the son of Anna and the late Leo Hoy, was laid to rest on Monday morning at Cross Cemetery. He is survived his wife Noreen, son Richard, daughters Rachel and Rebecca, brother, sisters and grandchildren.
