WHILE WORK on the new SWC campus forges ahead there are also ambitious plans in place to have a footbridge linking the new college with the town centre.
The new campus is situated on the site of the former Erne hospital in Enniskillen, and beside the new £4.5 million Ambulance Service.
Funding has not yet been accessed for this part of the project but the footbridge would link the town centre to the college following fears that the relocation of the College would impact on business in Enniskillen.
Speaking about the development, Fiona Brazil said, “We are trying to identify funding for the footbridge but there is none available at the minute.
“Ideally if the footbridge came along, it would not only service the college but also the Health Centre next door, the Erne road, and people would be able to nip to town. It would definitely benefit the whole town in terms of making connections back into the town centre.
“Our students who get the bus would be able to go over the town and straight across, rather than coming around Johnston Bridge which would shorten their journey by 850 metres.”
