Irvinestown Healthy Living Centre awarded £364,000

THE Arc Healthy Living Centre in Irvinestown has been awarded £364,000 after winning the contract for the Enniskillen / West Fermanagh area following a competitive tendering exercise.
This health and well-being hub will work on a cross border basis, facilitating people to improve their health and well-being in areas such as physical activity, mental health, nutrition, smoking and alcohol consumption all of which are risk factors for the development of long term health conditions.
The funding for this comes off the back of a new EU INTERREG VA funded project, Coh-Sync which has recently commenced in the area. The aim is to support people to improve their health and well-being by the CAWT cross border health and social care partnership.
Cllr Raymond Farrell said, “The Arc Centre has for years played a pivotal role in promoting a healthy lifestyle from infancy right through to the senior stage of life. I think this is a tremendous achievement and very well deserved. The centre has previously been recognised in the Queen’s Voluntary Community Awards recently. This will be a real boost not only for the Arc Centre but to the region as well in terms of attracting a new customer base to the area. With it being a rural area this will also help with improving connectivity with other parts of the province and further afield.”
Training is underway to enable community health facilitators to deliver the program locally. Una Meehan from Lakeland Community Care Belcoo has been contracted by Arc Healthy Living Centre to support with delivery of the project. “The training was very valuable to my work as a health facilitator. I was provided with some easy to follow tools to help assess a participant’s health status. There was a nice balance of both theory and practical tasks during the training and I feel confident in applying some of the approaches I learnt going forward.”
