Derrylin meeting is held on future of GPs

Derrylin Surgery is to amalgamate with Derrygonnelly

A PUBLIC meeting has been organised to address concerns about GP provision in Fermanagh following the amalgamation of another three GP practices.

Fermanagh Save our Services are holding the public meeting in Derrylin on Monday night in Clachan Court at 7pm to discuss the amalgamation of surgeries in Derrylin and Derrygonnelly surgery, along with the Benaughlin surgery in Florencecourt.
The surgeries have amalgamated from April 1st known as the ‘Cuilcagh Medical Practice.’
In a letter to patients from the Health and Social Care board explained that “This is due to the retirement of doctors John and Aisling Kirby, and the difficulty of recruiting young doctors to small rural practices.’ The letter also explains ‘that full general medical services will continue to be provided from all three sites.’
The plans follow on from the closure of the medical practice in Roslea with patients now travelling to Lisnaskea, a move which has been heavily criticised by local people.
A spokesman for Fermanagh Saveout Services explained, “we think that there is real a threat to GP services here in Fermanagh and we encourage everyone to come along to the public meeting on Monday night.”
