Enniskillen man (65) faces assault charge

A 65-year-old man has been have been committed for trial in relation to an assault last year.
Appearing for a preliminary enquiry before Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday was Kevin Lawrenson from Silverstream Court in Enniskillen. He is charged with disorderly behaviour on Market Street, Enniskillen and two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm to Paul Murphy. All matters relate to an alleged incidents on 11th December 2015.
Lawrenson stood as the clerk of the court asked him if he had received the documents in relation to the holding of a Preliminary Enquiry.
“Yes,” he replied.
A prosecutor submitted that on the basis of those documents there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence solicitor Garry Smyth said that was not formally conceded but added that he was making no contrary submission.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said he had read the documents and was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
Lawrenson was asked if he wished to say anything in answer to the charges.
“Not at this stage,” he replied. Asked if he wished to give evidence, call witnesses or tender any witness statements, Lawrenson again replied: “Not at this stage.”
Judge Broderick remanded Lawrenson on £500 bail and ordered him to appear for arraignment at Dungannon Crown Court sitting on December 20th.
