Windows smashed in attack on priest’s home

A parish priest has been left badly shaken after vandals attacked his Parochial House yesterday evening.

Fr Joe McVeigh, who is Priest in Residence at St Mary’s in Lisbellaw, returned home on Sunday night to find three ground floor windows smashed at his home on the Tattygar Road.

The incident, which police have described as “a hate crime” occurred sometime between 4pm and 8pm. It is believed that a sledgehammer may have been used in the attack.

The incident has been condemed as “shameful” by the Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness who said: “I unreservedly condemn yesterday’s cowardly attack on the Parochial House of Fr.Joe McVeigh in Fermanagh.”

Officers have appealed for anyone with any information to contact them in Enniskillen on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
