A 53-year-old man appeared in court this week accused of causing the death of a motorcyclist in a road traffic collision near Enniskillen two years ago.
Joseph Keenan of Lawnakilla Park in Enniskillen was appearing for a preliminary enquiry before Enniskillen Magistrates Court where he was charged in relation to the death of Brian Bernard Peter Lynch by careless driving. The accident occurred on the A4 Belfast Road between Lisbellaw and Tamlaght on Saturday, November 15th 2014, when Mr Lynch’s motor cycle collided with a blue Vauxhall Vectra shortly before 4.50pm
The 48-year-old died from his injuries five days later at the Royal Victoria Hospital. A native of Waterford, Mr Lynch was a father of four who lived in Drumbawn, Enniskillen.
At Monday’s hearing, Keenan stood as the clerk of the court asked him if he had received the documents in relation to the holding of a Preliminary Enquiry.
“Yes,” he replied.
A prosecutor submitted that on the basis of those documents there was a prima facie case to answer.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said he had read the documents and was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
Keenan was asked if he wished to say anything in answer to the charges.
“No” he replied.
Asked if he wished to give evidence, call witnesses or tender any witness statements, Keenan again replied: “No”.
Judge Broderick remanded Keenan on £500 bail and ordered him to appear for arraignment at Dungannon Crown Court sitting on January 17th .
