The first phase of the £500,000 road widening project on one of the county’s most congested roads – the Dublin Road in Enniskillen – is to start next week.
The work, on one of the busiest entrance routes to the town is set to continue for five weeks. Motorists should expect delays, particularly at busy times.
The road widening scheme on the Dublin Road and Wickham Place has been mooted for some time now and according to traffic management will require continuous traffic lane closure on Wickham Place, between Dublin Road and Castlecoole Road.
During this phase, road widening will be undertaken along the Model School side of the road.
On the Dublin Road frontage of the Model School and Western Board Education offices works will also commence to take down and set back the wall and to provide service alterations.
No traffic lanes will be closed along Dublin Road during this phase, however ,the entire footway along the road between Dublin Road and Castlecoole Road will be closed to pedestrians.
It is believed TransportNI has agreed to postpone roadworks on the main road into the town in the run-up to Christmas and consequently no lane closures affecting the existing road will be permitted at the site between 27 November 2016 and 7 January 2017.
The second phase of the works which are due to start early in January, will require a new traffic management plan which should see new changes to traffic lanes and signals.
