Parents and young people to put PSNI on the spot

Parents and young people from across the county are being urged to attend an important policing meeting on youth engagement in Enniskillen next week.

Organised by the Fermanagh and Omagh Policing and Community Safety Partnership, the public Policing Committee meeting will take place in the Townhall on Tuesday 26th July at 6.30pm. The event will put community leaders, parents and teenagers face to face with police officers from the district for an open dialogue.

Fermanagh and Omagh PCSP works with the community to identify policing and community safety concerns within the district and works in partnership with others to help address these. One of the ways in which they do this is by hosting regular public Policing Committee meetings where residents are invited to come along to hear from the PSNI on local policing and ask questions.

PCSP Chairman, Cllr Keith Elliott, told the Herald: “The next public meeting on Tuesday will involve police officers explaining how they currently engage with young people from our local community. I would encourage anyone with an interest in this subject to come along on the night to find out more. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to ask questions about this theme.”

Committee member Cllr Debbie Coyle is urging young people, parents and those who work with youth groups in their local communties to come along on the night and take the opportunity to voice their concerns.

“It’s a rare opportunity for young people to engage directly with police officers by asking questions and airing their concerns in a public forum. They will also be discussing how they engage with young people to help prevent them becoming involved in criminal activity. It will be a very informative meeting for parents too who may be worried about what their kids are getting into and also for community leaders and workers,” she said.
