Maguiresbridge’s new 3G playing surface at Killashambally, just off the main road at the main junction to the village, will be officially opened with special guest Ballymena United manager David Jeffrey.
The new facility, developed by Maguiresbridge Pitch Development Committee, will be opened to a fanfare with fancy dress parade, bouncy castle and fun and games for everyone.
First mooted three years ago, the project secured funding from the Department of Communitiess and bought six acres of land from local farmer Malcolm Hunter.
Barrett Rennick a member of the development committee explained, “We made an application to the Department in 2014 and were successful. The playing surface is now complete and is surrounded by a 15 foot fence. We still have to do a little work on the carpark and toilet facilities, but when that is carried out it will be a superb facility.”
“Hopefully this new sports facility will encourage more people from a rural background to participate in exercise and sport, particularly those who didn’t have an opportunity before this. That we hope will promote more activity and better health lifestyles in our area,” he said.
The £360,000 facility will be used by the wider Maguiresbridge community for sports and games as well as local football teams.
On Saturday there is a day of fun and games planned for the opening. The schedule begins at 1pm with a fancy dress competition in the village. Then there is parade to the ground where there will be games, a bouncy castle and the official opening.
