On January 19, at approximately 10.45am, police observed Logan driving a Citroen Saxo on the Coa Road in Enniskillen, with checks revealing he wasn’t insured. Logan continued on towards the Tempo Road, passing roadworks where traffic signals were in place. Police then saw him pulling out, ignoring the traffic signals, and accelerating through the roadworks.

Police followed Logan, wtaching him over taking cars, taking blind corners, driving the wrong way around a roundabout, and reaching speeds of 80mph. They then stopped following due to the danger of the speed they were driving to keep up.

Later that day Logan was seen pulling out from Rooney’s Spar on the Cornagrade Road, driving off with his tyres spinning and screeching in the direction of his home. Police attended his address, but he wasn’t home, so they carried out a search of the property, where they found several bags of cannabis, a bag of pills, and bags of legal high called “smeg,” which is  a synthetic cannabis substance.

Police also spoke to the registered owner of the car, Logan, who had previously been disqualified from driving on two occasions, was driving, who told them he had sold it to the defendant earlier that day.

Logan was later arrested and interviewed at Enniskillen Police Station, where he denied driving the car despite being told three police officers had seen him. With regard to the drugs, Logan said he only smoked synthetic cannabis and when asked about why cannabis had been found in his home he said “God knows.”

Defence barrister Ciaran Roddy applied for bail on Logan, who has been in custody since January 19. He said the defendant, who will be contesting the drugs charges against him, would be willing to comply with any bail conditions imposed on him, such as a ban on entering private motor cars.

Mr Roddy said that while Logan had an “appalling” driving record, his time in custody had provided him with a chance to reflect and engage in courses, such as drugs education courses and decorating.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the charges against Logan were very serious, and the defendant had a very poor driving record. As such, he denied him bail on the grounds he believed Logan would be at risk of further offending, putting pedestrians and other road users at risk. Judge Broderick adjourned the case until June 13.
