THE EARL of Erne has sadly passed away at home this morning (Wednesday).

The Fermanagh Herald understands the Earl of Erne died after suffering from short illness.

Born in 1937, he inherited Crom Castle from his father aged two years old, after his father was killed in the Second World War. He moved to Crom when he turned 21.

The Earl of Erne and his wife, brought up their five children, Cleone, Davina, Katherine, Tara and John, at Crom Castle.
