FUNDRAISING to help find a cure and aid research for brave Ellie Nicholl is well underway.
The seven-year-old who has the progressive neurological condition known as H-ABC (Hypomyelination with atrophy of the basal ganglia and cerebellum) Syndrome featured in last week’s Fermanagh Herald.
Since the article was published the family has been inundated with support and interest through social media and have already finalised a number of fund raising events.
Mum Ciara Nicholl explained that the family had initially planned to raffle a Fermanagh shirt worn by Conall Jones and signed by the team following the All Ireland quarter final with Dublin, but now they have a prize, sought after by almost every GAA fan; two tickets to the All Ireland final at Croke Park on September 20.
“Further to the original plan of just the jersey for raffle, we now have two amazing tickets for the All Ireland final, thanks to a very generous donation. We are very excited about this new prize as it means we can get interest from a lot further afield than Fermanagh fans.”
The golden tickets are front row, half way line premium section for the Cusack Stand, offering the best view in the ground of the action. In addition a Halloween themed fundraiser is to be held in the Westville Hotel on Friday October 30 after generously being given the hire of the function room for the night.
Ciara admitted it has been crazy the interest Ellie’s condition has generated and along with husband Billy and son Arran are thankful of all the help and support they have received so far.
“We are still getting a lot of interest with the page and the fundraising. We are in the process of setting up a ‘just giving’ page as we have been approached by a lot of people willing to donate directly to the fund but it also reaches out to those further afield who wish to donate.
“Following the article we have received messages from Southern Ireland and England and the two All Ireland tickets which were very kindly donated have added extra interest also. We have also been approached by a number of local businesses wishing to donate so it looks like October 30 could be a good night.”
Ellie Nicholl Research Fund sheets to win the Fermanagh jersey and All Ireland tickets are in a number of local shops around Fermanagh. A line costs £1 or a full card is £20.
Proceeds from these will be split between Horizon West Hospice, Killadeas and H-ABC Research. The draw will be made on September 15.
