No butts… dropped cigarette cost £206

Cigarette-Butt
A CIGARETTE BUTT dropped from a car has landed an Enniskillen man with a  bill of £206.
Anthony Porter of Sycamore Drive, Cavanaleck was convicted at Enniskillen Magistrates Court in his absence for failing to comply with a litter notice.
Prosecuting on behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Nicola McCaffrey outlined that on August 12, 2014 the council refuse supervisor observed a Rover 45 driving along the Derrychara Road in Enniskillen. The supervisor observed the female driver of the vehicle drop a cigarette butt from the car and reported the incident.
After checks were made it was discovered that the vehicle belonged to Porter and letters were sent to the defendant. He replied on November 20, 2014 stating that he owned the vehicle. A fixed penalty notice was issued for the offence in addition to reminders, but it was never paid. The solicitor told the court that Porter had since been in touch stating he was willing to pay the fine issued against him.
District judge Nigel Broderick said that Porter should have paid the fixed penalty of £75, as he was now going to incur extra costs. He issued a £100, with additional court costs of £106.
