£200, 000 worth of cannabis was discovered by police

It is the second major drugs bust by police in the last three weeks – and the ninth in just over two years.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity.

The find took place in the Florencecourt area on Friday, November 6.

A police spokesman added: “Approximately 400 cannabis plants were found, with an estimated street value of around £200,000 was also seized. A neighbouring property has also been searched and cultivation equipment was recovered.

“In addition officers searched a third property today (Friday, November 7) and a considerable quantity of cannabis was found.”

This find comes just three weeks after cannabis plants worth £43,000 and equipment was seized in the Moorlough Road area of Lisnaskea.

And, back in August, cannabis plants with a potential street value of around £100,000 seized by police in the Newtownbutler arena.

Erne West Councillor, Cyril Brownlee of the DUP, was glad to see the local police’s proactive approach.

He said: “There’s no question about it, I condemn it. It’s great that the police have been able to find it. People know what’s going on. There’s a lot of local people in the Florencecourt area that know what is going on.

“They weren’t happy with it going on,” he added.

“The police have known about this for some time, they’re been keeping an eye on it, it’s not new. These people should be put behind bars. It’s good that the police are seizing all this before they’re distributing around people.”

Detective Chief Inspector Derek Scott said: “This is the sixth cannabis factory uncovered by officers in Fermanagh in recent months. We are committed to tackle this scourge on our community and will continue to work to disruption these criminals.

“Information provided by local people is vital in helping us to identify properties where drugs activity may be taking place. It can also help us track down those involved in drugs distribution in the local area and assist in building up sufficient evidence to shut down their activities and take them off the streets for good.

“Drugs are a scourge on society, destroying lives and families and I would encourage local people to contact us if they have suspicions about any person or place, or if they believe they can help us identify those involved in the local drugs trade. I can assure you – we will listen.”
