Spanish musicians on whistlestop tour of county

THE Pulse and Plectrum Orchestra and choir from the Town of Paracuellos de Jarama, will bring their unique sound in a whistlestop tour of Fermanagh from 23 to 29 August.

Paracuellos is a town of the outskirts of Madrid in Spain and the connection with Fermanagh was formed through a friendship with Derrylin man, Martin Murphy, and his Spanish born wife, Belen.

Belen’s good friend Maria Angeles Peran former Minsister for Culture, Education and Sport and her sisters Rosia and Gemma form an integral part of this 35 strong group of singers and musicians.

The sisters play mandolins and guitars with the orchestra under the direction of Pablo and Jose Maria who have been leaders since its formation in 1990. The orchestra accompanies the choir whose beautiful harmony has held audiences spellbound. They have performed throughout Spain and have won major awards for their music and song.

In 2012 the group performed for audiences at the All-Ireland Fleadh in Cavan and at concerts in Ballinagleara and Boho.

Following the success of this visit the group, who fell in love with Ireland and its people are making a return trip. One of the highlights of their 2012 trip was the civic reception afforded them by Fermanagh District Council in the Townhall, Enniskillen. Killesher Community Development Association who are hosting the group are grateful to Fermanagh District Council for their contribution towards their concerts on their 2014 tour.

If you wish to hear this unique group you have 2 opportunities in Fermanagh – firstly in Millennium Hall Arney on Tuesday August 26 at 8.30pm and in Aughakillymaude Mummers Centre on Thursday August 28, also at 8.30pm.

Tickets are £5 from Pauline Corrigan 079 999 515 94 or any member of Killesher Community Development Association. Tickets for the concerts are available from the tourist office, Enniskillen.
