A REMARKABLE A-Level student has overcome the trauma of her father’s death and being caught up in an incendiary attack on a hotel during her exams to achieve outstanding success.
Ederney student Sacha White, was just weeks away from her A Level exams when she returned to the Everglades Hotel in Derry after visiting her father William who was in the Intensive Care Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital when she found herself in the middle of a bomb attack.
Weeks later and as the 19-year-old prepared for her second exam, her father tragically died after he was admitted into hospital with heart trouble.
Despite the tragic loss the Erne Integrated student continued her exams and was delighted with her success, securing two As and a B.
“I have got into York University to study English Literature,” she said.
“My dad passed away before the end of my exams on June 5, which was a challenge to say the least. But the school was so supportive and Bruce, my brother, helped me study when Dad was in hospital.
“My father was buried on the Friday and my exam was a few days later. My friends really helped me and I did bursts of revision which was great.
“I got special consideration where they add 5% to what your grade is.
“Everyone was so delighted on the morning I got my results, there was a lot of hysterical crying and joy. Dad really wanted me to do my exams and go to university. When we went to visit him in hospital he always asked how the revision was going.”
