ROADWORKS… The Sligo Road

A NEW £250,000 roadworks scheme has been announced for the main Belfast Road.

The resurfacing scheme is due to begin next Monday (August 18), and takes place at Tattenaheglish near Carralongford between Fivemiletown and Brookeborough on the road to Enniskillen.

The work will involve the provision of drainage, a right hand turning lane and some vehicle restraint barrier as well as a new surface for the length of the scheme.

The length of the scheme is 325metres and includes the resurfacing of the hard shoulders.

A right hand turning lane is being provided for the Derrynavogy Road and vehicle restraint on the bend. New drainage is also being provided for this section of road.

The main contractor for the project is P Clarke & Sons (Lisnaskea) and the scheme is expected to be finished by the end of August.

Transport minister Danny Kennedy, welcoming the investment, said it will ‘improve the running surface and safety of the road’.

The work will be undertaken under traffic control and the road will remain open to traffic throughout the period of work.

Roads Service warned motorists that while traffic management arrangements are in place to minimise inconvenience, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected.

Meanwhile, in Enniskillen, roadworks are also underway to improve watermains and a ‘defective section’ of road service.

The work is ongoing at the Sligo Road and the Cornagrade Road and Wellington Road.

A roads service spokesman said: “The work on Sligo Road at Reilly’s Cross is resurfacing work carried out by TNI (Transport Northern Ireland) to replace a defective section of road surface.

“Most of the disruptive work is being carried out in the overnight period to minimise traffic disruption and should be completed next Wednesday.

“The works on the Cornagrade Road and the Wellington Road are both being carried out on behalf of NIW (Northern Ireland Water) to refurbish watermains.”
