WELL-KNOWN GAA figure Ann McGrath, the farmer who sustained life-threatening injuries in a tractor mishap near her home at Tullystranadego, Garrison on 18th May last, is due to be transferred back from the Royal Victoria Hospital to SWAH this week.
Mrs McGrath (53), a well-known figure in ladies football, escaped head and spinal injuries when, it is believed, the tractor she had been driving and had just alighted from came in contact with her.
Somehow or other, she trailed her way to her home and raised the alarm, her husband, Gerry not being there at the time.
The call was instantly acted on by her brother-in-law, Gabriel and his wife, Siobhan, and the emergency services contacted.
Gabriel, speaking yesterday, Tuesday. On behalf of his brother, told the Herald that Ann was awaiting a bed in the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen.
“She’s up walking on her own again, she’s off all oxygen so, hopefully, today or tomorrow they will be sending her back to Enniskillen.”
Asked if his sister-in-law might suffer long-term effects from her trauma, he reported that Ann had made an astonishing recovery.
“Seemingly, what has happened is that all the people who were praying for her, from all over the country, their prayers have been answered.
“In saying that, it will be a long while before she is fully recovered, perhaps 12 months, before the lungs are fully right.
But, she is able to be up and to walk about, and is off all support.”
