CHEF NEVEN Maguire paid tribute to his late mother, Vera, after picking up Ireland’s Best Chef award for the second time in his career at the prestigious Restaurant Association of Ireland awards recently.

Neven received the top accolade in 2009 and this year repeated the trick.

The award celebrates and recognises the approach, design and execution of dishes of those who are clearly pushing at culinary boundaries in Ireland.

Neven was delighted with the recognition and revealed that it was his late mother, who passed away in 2012, who provided the inspiration for him to achieve what he has.

“I am extremely honoured to receive this award for the second time. I am dedicating it to my Mother, Vera whose own love of food inspired my passion for cooking.”

Neven’s restaurant, MacNean House and Restaurant in Blacklion was originally owned and ran by his parents Vera and Joe and over the past number of years Neven has created something of a culinary heaven in his home village.

“While this is an individual award, it is a reflection of the dedication and support of the team at MacNean House and Restaurant. They are like a family and their on-going commitment to excellence is something I am very grateful for. I would also like to thank my wife Amelda, as being married to a chef is not always an easy task. We are so appreciative and grateful for the support of our loyal customers in Blacklion and across the Ulster region,” he added.
