The ‘Peace Link’ project, which has been in the works since 2011 – and as well as offering top of the range facilities for the Clones area, will provide a jobs boost over the coming months.
The centre is visibly taking shape, and is currently undergoing a snagging process and internal fit out – while further staff are being employed.
Steven O’Donnell, who works as a sports officer, updated the Fermanagh Herald on the project’s progress.
“All major structural work is now complete and the project is currently undergoing a snagging process and internal fit out that will ensure the highest possible level of user experience with gym and sports facilities that meet the highest industry standards.
“Within a short space of time, in a position to operate at the highest standards, the unveiling of this iconic sports facility will add much needed value to the lives of people living in the Clones Erne East region and the wider Fermanagh and Monaghan areas.”
The centre includes a 400 metre International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) standard running track with infield facilities, 3G synthetic multipurpose playing pitch, fully equipped modern gymnasium and 600m, two sports halls equipped for indoor bowling, badminton, karate, special needs groups and much more.
The complex is expected to be open to the public in September.
