He was born in Castle Street, Ballyshannon to parents who were from Boho (his father) and Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.

The removal of the remains took place yesterday, Tuesday to St Patrick’s Church, Ballyshannon where they will repose until 10 o’clock tonight, Wednesday.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 12 noon tomorrow followed by burial in the church grounds.

Fr Ambrose’s departure is much regretted by the staff of Shannagh Private Nursing Home, in particular the nurses who looked after his care, and also, by the clergy of those dioceses he ministered in.

They included Brentwood (London) and Raphoe.

A spokesman for Shannagh Private Nursing Home said Fr Ambrose had been a resident since January 2006.

“He was a great man who was loved by everybody here. He was a great character and was active until the end. In fact, he was at Mass two weeks ago. A curate who was here, Fr Ben, who was doing a retreat in Rossnowlagh, called to see him and he was at Mass the next day.
