CYCLIST… Carl Fivey (left) from Enniskillen

CARL Fivey, a keen cyclist from Enniskillen, is calling on cycle fans to join him on his 60 miles’ ‘Ride to Remember’ bike ride around Lough Erne next Sunday 22 June for the British Heart Foundation.

Carl chose the charity for a number of reasons, not least the defibrillator it funded for Boa Island, and their pioneering medical research. And, he chose cycling  because it reminds him of his late dad.

He explained: “Cycling was a great love of my dad’s, and we spent many happy hours regularly riding around Lough Erne and the surrounding area.

“For me, this ride will be in my dad’s memory. It is also a great opportunity to raise money and for all to enjoy the scenery and tranquillity along the route.”

This is the second year that Carl will be doing the cycle, and he hopes that better weather and post Giro d’Italia cycle fever will encourage more people to take part, either in fundraising or to donate.

He said: “We raised over £500 pounds with a fantastic support network last year. Hopefully, with some better weather we can attract a larger participant base and we hope to raise even more money this year.”

BHF Northern Ireland’s Fundraising Volunteer Manager, Gary Wilson said:  “We are absolutely delighted that Carl has organised this event for us.”

To join, cyclists must be able to ride 60 miles and those under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Entry fee is £25, and participants will be provided with a goodie bag and refreshments at the end.

To register, contact Carl by emailing him at carlfivey@hotmail.com, calling him on 07979 797129 or if you want to donate, please visit the event Just Giving Page  – http://www.justgiving.com/ridetoremember2014.
