Trial date set for driver involved in crash in which baby was killed

A SLIGO man is to go on trial in September in connection with the death of a young toddler from Mulleek.

Twenty three year old John Fahy from Grogagh Grange in Sligo is facing charges of causing the death of 19 month old Ryan Cox and causing grevious bodily injury to his mother Katriona Cox by driving without due care and attention on January 14 last year.

The mother and child are from the Mulleek area close to the scene of the accident on the Boa Island Road near Belleek.

The crash happened at around 3.50pm on Monday, January 14 last year near Castle Caldwell on the Boa Island Road.

The silver Peugeot 307 driven by Katriona Cox collided with a Renault Megane alleged driven by the defendant.

Both cars were severely damaged in the crash and the defendant was hospitalised as was Ms Cox following the crash.

Fahy appeared before Dungannon court on Friday where he was arraigned and sent for trial before Dungannon Crown Court on September 8, 2014
